Campout, Saturday & Sunday, September 29th & September 30th

Pack 773 is going camping on Saturday September 29th for one night at Catoctin Mountain State Park in Thurmont, MD.  All Scouts and their families are invited to this event.  All Scouts must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please join us for the entire weekend or part of it.  The park is about 50 miles from Potomac.

The fee for the campout is $10 per person or $40 per family.  Kids 3 and under free.  This money will pay for the campsite rental, charcoal, s’mores and glow sticks.

Catoctin Mountain State Park offers many types of activities which include hiking and fishing (MD fishing license required).  See the Catoctin Mountain State Park website for details.  We have reserved group campsites which are all adjacent to each other and an outdoor pavilion in case of rain.

We are handling the food differently for this campout.  The Pack will provide charcoal for you to grill something for your family.  Please bring a side dish to share with the pack for dinner.  Bring beverages for your family.  Bring breakfast for your family to share with the pack.  We will lay out all food for a breakfast buffet.  The pack will supply s’mores of desert.

If you own a tarp or free standing tarp (the type used for tailgating at football games) please bring it in case it rains! 


Food items to bring:

·       Something to grill for your family.

·       Side dish to share with the pack for dinner.

·       Beverages for your family.

·       Breakfast for your family to share with the pack.  We will lay out all food for a breakfast buffet.

·       Mess kits or paper plates for your family.

·       Cups

·       Cutlery

·       Paper towels, trash bags, soap.

 

Tentative itinerary:

·       3pm: Check into campsite.

·       3pm to 6pm:  Setup camp.  Free play.  Explore park.  Den activities.

·       5pm:  Start cooking dinner.

·       6pm:  Dinner and cleanup.

·       7pm:  Campfire.  Each den will present a skit or song.  S’mores.

·       9pm:  Bedtime.

·       10pm:  Lights out.  Quite time.

·       7am:  Breakfast and free play or den activity.

·       10am: Depart.

 

Thinks to consider bringing (attached are full REI check lists):

·       Tent with ground cloth (should be smaller than foot print of tent).

·       Sleeping bag with pad or air mattress.  Pillow if desired.

·       Canteen or water bottles.

·       Folding chairs.

·       Tarp or fly (coordinate with Den leader).

·       Camping stove (coordinate with Den leader).

·       Lantern and flashlights.

·       Change of clothes.

·       Swim suit.

·       Long underwear.

·       Warm jacket.

·       Rain gear.

·       Stocking hat.

·       2nd pair of shoes or boots.

·       Mess kit.

·       First aid kit.

·       Toiletry kit.

·       Food and beverages.

 

Please note:

·       Alcohol is prohibited by both the Boy Scouts and the Park service.

·       No firearms or fireworks.

·       No knives issued to Cub Scouts please.

·       Please do not bring axes, hatchets or saws.
